How to get Clear Skin and Keep it Clear

Acne is a chronic skin disorder without a cure. We have thousands of pores on our face, back, and chest that are continuously filling up with dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria. In a normally functioning pore, this material is naturally expelled on a regular basis. In acne prone skin, the material gets trapped in the pore and grows to form a blemish.

 

Although there are many effective treatments available, you'll never keep acne under control unless you treat your skin consistently with the right products. TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR ACNE:

 

Salicylic Chemical Peel 

It is becoming common for beta hydroxy acid (BHA) peels to be used instead of the stronger alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) peels due to BHA's ability to get deeper into the pore than AHA. Studies show that BHA peels control sebum excretion, acne as well as remove dead skin cells to a certain extent better than AHA due to AHAs only working on the surface of the skin. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid.

 

Used as a chemical peel, salicylic acid can be a very effective treatment against many different types of skin conditions. At the forefront, salicylic acid peels are used to dramatically reduce the appearance of acne and scars associated with the condition. However, salicylic acid peels have also proven to be effective against blackheads, whiteheads, signs of premature aging, wrinkles, calluses, psoriasis and uneven skin tone in general. In short, salicylic acid peels quite literally remove damaged skin to reveal the healthier and more aesthetically pleasing skin underneath.

Salicylic acid peels work by removing excess sebum (facial oil composed of wax, lipids and dead cells) along with attacking bacteria deep within pores. Due to this, it must be applied directly to the face in concentrations of up to 30. A thin, even layer of concentrated salicylic acid is applied directly to the face only after it has been thoroughly cleansed. This is to prevent any type of debris or bacteria from tainting the vulnerable new skin that will be revealed by the peel.

 

Micro-Dermabrasion

Microdermabrasion acne treatments are a popular option used by licensed skin care specialists to remove the outer-most layer of dead skin cells that form the epidermis. This can improve skin texture, remove blackheads and whiteheads, and surface hyperpigmentation. This superficial cosmetic procedure can be used to treat the face or body, and it's an excellent alternative or addition to chemical peels in the treatment of mild, non-inflammatory acne. It's important to know that microdermabrasion treatments alone will not keep your skin clear. You'll also need to treat your skin daily at home with the proper skin care system to keep new plugs from forming in your pores.

 

The diamond derm abrasion system (which we use), replaces the micro-crystal flow style with a disposable or reusable diamond tip wand of varied sizes and coarseness. The wand tip is made of natural diamond chips which polish the skin and remove dead cells, which are then vacuumed back into a waste filter. This peeling and vacuuming process helps to "purge" the sticky material that cloges your pores and it increases circulation, which encourages skin renewal

 

Many professionals prefer natural diamond tips because they are easier to control and don't irritate the skin . Areas closer to the eyes and mouth can be abraded more accurately with diamond abrasion (no risk of stray crystals causing damage or being ingested).

 

Microdermabrasion acne treatments will give you smoother skin texture, and can minimize the appearance of enlarged pores and dark spots from previous break outs.

 

Ultra-Violet Light Therapy with Blue and Red Photons

If you live in a part of the world that has seasons, you may have noticed that there certain times of year that your skin gets better no matter what you do, and there are also certain times of year that your skin gets worse no matter what you do. The reason your skin may change with the seasons has to do with sunlight. For centuries, people who had acne were told that they needed the sun to “dry out” their skin. While both dryness and sun are enemies of healthy skin, it turns out the old advice to expose acne to the light of day was partially correct. Visible blue light, it turns out, can kill acne.

 

There are specific wavelengths of visible light that kill acne bacteria. Visible blue light from the sun (in the frequency range of approximately 415 nm) that shines into pores can activate light-sensitive chemicals called porphyrins that are found in the outer cell membranes of the bacteria that cause acne. When these chemicals begin to vibrate in sync with solar energy, they rupture the outer lining of the bacterium. The contents of the bacterial cell begin to leak out, and the bacterium dies within 48 hours. Therefore Blue Light kills Acne Bacteria.

 

Visible red light from the sun has a complementary benefit in treating acne. Solar rays in the frequency range of approximately 650 nanometers reach deeper into the skin, down to the level of the sebocytes that produce the oil that sometimes clogs pores. The red rays of the sun are absorbed by red compounds in the skin. They primarily heat up hemoglobin. Ordinary light shining on the surface of the skin, however, only reaches to the depth of the oil glands, and does not cauterize the blood vessels in the skin.
